The Sorting House.

Wandsworth, London

Wynngate Ltd

A former Royal Mail sorting office, the development at The Sorting House provides 22 new build flats in the heart of Wandsworth for Wynngate.

Sitting in close proximity to Wandsworth conservation area, the development was designed to maximise the site while retaining the heritage and historic fabric of the existing building. The dilapidated buildings were demolished, but the front facade was retained due to it’s Victorian neoclassical qualities.

The layout of the flats were carefully considered, providing quintessential modern living while delivering the client’s ambitions. The combination of a traditional terraced housing streetscene shrouding a modern development in a dense, urban area delivers for residents & developers alike.

Sustainability & wellbeing are key factors in modern residential design. These are reflected in the inclusion of outdoor spaces for every flat, the use of solar panels & provision of bike storage. Urban greening of the fabric with the addition of a green roof & living wall further enhance the development’s environmental credentials.

Visually, the original facade of the sorting office is enhanced with a carefully selected, sympathetic brick infill reflecting the character of the original building. Above the retained facade, the building is extended in a contrasting blue brick. The top floor completes the eye-catching visual framework with a dark zinc cladding.
